What to do before you reach our office

Knocked-Out Tooth

  • Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root
  • Rinse gently with water if dirty
  • Try to reinsert it in the socket
  • If not possible, keep it in milk or saliva
  • Get to us within 30 minutes

Severe Toothache

  • Rinse with warm salt water
  • Use dental floss to remove trapped food
  • Apply cold compress to outside of cheek
  • Take over-the-counter pain medication
  • Never put aspirin directly on the tooth

Broken Tooth

  • Save any broken pieces
  • Rinse mouth with warm water
  • Apply gauze if bleeding
  • Use cold compress for swelling
  • Cover sharp edges with dental wax

Lost Filling/Crown

  • Keep the crown or filling if found
  • Apply clove oil for pain relief
  • Use temporary dental cement from pharmacy
  • Avoid chewing on affected side
  • See us as soon as possible
